About Me

When I arrived in Ireland I began my Irish outdoor career in earnest at the Cappanalea Outdoor and Training Centre where I taught canoeing and mountaineering as a voluntary instructor. Also at that time I was a member of Kerry Mountain Rescue. I have a particular passion for Irish agriculture, and currently teach organic horticulture. I have extensive knowledge of walks from the Dingle to Mizen peninsulas of Kerry and Cork. For me, a walk on the Wild Atlantic Way is all about the experience, and the same walk can be totally different according to the time of year and the weather! I like to share my experience as a photographer with other walkers in order to document your walk, put you in the landscape, and create lasting memories

About Me

As a traditional herbalist, I have a special interest in Plants, Herbs and their uses. I have developed my own skincare range “Shirley’s Herbal Care” from organic herbs grown on our farm, specialising for those with eczema and psoriasis. I also have a keen interest in harvesting seaweed, which I dry for various uses. For several years I have been walking extensively throughout Ireland and the Canary Islands and am currently finishing my guiding training with Mountaineering Ireland.

Experience

Shirley is a native of County Limerick and has lived in Holland and Germany, and so has a working knowledge of both German and Dutch, as well as being fluent in English. She moved to Kenmare in 1987, and in 1999 set up her home at Rowandale Farm, just outside the town. Shirley is a riding instructor and trekking guide.
