Cliffs of Moher walk, Doolin to Hags head along the Cliffs of Moher, with  views to the Arran Islands, Connemara and Galway,  Extended  Tour by Wild Atlantic Walking Tours

We walk the main part of the coastal walking trail between Doolin and Liscannor, following the Cliffs of Moher and passing by the Cliffs of Moher visitor Centre. On the way, we have spectacular views along the cliffs to the Aran Islands, Galway and Connemara to the north, and southward along the coast as far as Kerry on a clear day.

The Cliffs of Moher walking path that we follow, is here due to the diligent work of Pat Sweeney, a local farmer, walking guide, and coast guard member. He has engaged with the local private landowners to develop this trail, through and by their fields, gaining permission to show walkers the great quality cattle grazing on these limestone pastures, and the rare special Burren plants growing there. The path rises from Doolin to the Cliffs of Moher visiting centre which we pass through, before very slowly descending to the signal tower at Hags head which you can see from the visitor centre.

There is time to take some incredible photos, and observe the Wild Atlantic Ocean at first hand, bashing the cliffs of Moher, still shaping this western edge of Europe. This is a special area of conservation and protection for the 30,000 birds nesting here, like puffins, and lots of other seabirds. We can see Gannets and other gulls diving into the Atlantic, or wheeling around us on the air currents, to and from their nests. We will leave the cliffs at Hag’s Head, with its signal tower from Napoleonic times, and walk down the lane to the Liscannor sports field to meet our transport.

Please note that this is a walk up to and along the edge of the cliffs, for part of the walk. It is a stretch without barriers or protection of any kind, so you will need to be very comfortable with heights, and steep drops to the sea immediately below. This is a walk up to and on the edge of the cliffs, for part of the way without barriers, so you need to be able to deal with heights, and steep drops beside you.
